Lifetime Releases Trailer to Toni Braxton's 'Unbreak My Heart'
Singing sensation Toni Braxton has most recently been in the spotlight for the WE TV series Braxton Family Values, the reality show she stars in with her sisters. Lifetime is set to air a Braxton biopic, Un-Break My Heart, based on Braxton's memoir of the same name. Vibe magazine reports there are high expectations for this Lifetime original, and the network has just released the first teaser.
"The film and title are based off of Braxton's 2014 memoir, which chronicles her rise to fame, her chart-topping success, financial woes, struggle with illness, her divorce and raising her son with autism," Vibe reports. Braxton has filed for bankruptcy twice and announced her battle with autoimmune disorder lupus in 2010, according to BET reports.
Lex Scott Davis will play Braxton, according to Variety. Debbie Morgan will play Braxton's mother, Evelyn, and Gavin Houston will appear as producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. Cortney Scott Wright, Skye P. Marshall and LaToya Franklyn are cast as Braxton's younger sisters Traci, Towanda and Trina. Tiffany Hines will play baby sister and Braxton Family Values fan favorite Tamar.
Unlike the Whitney Houston and Aaliyah biopics, Lifetime was authorized to produce this project; Braxton serves as executive producer and has a guest-star role. It is not specified which role she will play, according to Variety.
Other producers for the film are Craig Baumgarten, Erik Kritzer and Marcus Grant. The script was written by Susan McMartin and the film was directed by Vondie Curtis Hall, Variety reports.
The film will depict the highs and lows of the seven-time Grammy winner's life. How does a singer sell more than 67 million records and still have to file for bankruptcy? The film is sure to tell it all. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
Un-Break My Heart will air on Jan. 23, 2016 on Lifetime.
