'American Idol's Amber Holcomb the Next Whitney Houston? Nicki Minaj Compares 2013 Contestant to Late Singer, Results Show Tonight [VIDEO]
It seems like on season 12 of "American Idol" no one singer has broken away as the clear favorite. The show is down to the top 10 contestants and there are few strong performers who could end up winning the 2013 show. First there was Zoanette Johnson (now eliminated), then Angie Miller, then Kree Harrison, and now Amber Holcomb. You can argue on last night's (Wednesday March 13) live show that Candice Glover put forth the best performance, but I think Nicki Minaj may have been on to something about the 18-year-old singer from Houston, Texas. She seems to have some Whitney Houston in her.
This is big praise, especially when Nicki Minaj mentions the legendary singer in regards to Holcomb. Last night Holcomb performed "A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson, which led to a standing ovation from the audience and the judges. Watch for yourself.
Everyone in the building agreed it was a fantastic performance, especially coming from an 18-year-old singer. However, other singers like Candice Glover and Angie Miller also had fantastic performances on Wednesday night's "Idol." Nicki Minaj touched on something when she commented after Holcomb's performance. Minaj said, "Your voice and your aura reminds me of Whitney Houston's first album." Minaj also said, "that last note was giving me Whitney."
Those are lofty comparisons from the "American Idol" judge. I would go even a step further and say Holcomb just reminds me of Whitney Houston, period. Holcomb clearly has the voice to be a finalist and possibly win season 12 of "American Idol." What I think Nicki was getting at was that her presence on stage along with her grace and attitude was very Whitney-esque.
Tonight (Thursday night) we find out how America voted and see who makes it on to the next round. Although you never know, it seems like a good bet Holcomb will be advancing. Check out "American Idol" tonight on FOX at 8pm, then check out Mstarz for our complete recap.
