Jennifer Lawrence Rumored to be Oscar Contender for 'Joy' Performance
Fresh off the last installment Hunger Games franchise, it seems like Jennifer Lawrence is rumored to be an Oscar contender once more, as David O. Russell has directed her towards greatness again, this time in Joy. How good are her chances of taking home the naked little guy again this year?
Russell's film, his third collaboration with Lawrence, has received mixed reviews amounting to a fairly unimpressive Rotten 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, but all kudos have gone to its star, as every review has praised Lawrence's performance. It has been nearly two years since she was an Oscar contender. Perhaps this is the year?
For now, Lawrence has already taken the first step towards a big nomination, as she's one of the contenders at this year's Golden Globes, nabbing a nod for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy - though she was snubbed for the SAG.
It's certainly a tough category at the Globes this year, as Lawrence is competing against stars like acting legends Maggie Smith and Lily Tomlin, besides Melissa McCarthy and even close pal Amy Schumer - still, her popularity could certainly give her a boost when it comes to winning.
Lawrence is quite possibly the biggest star in Hollywood, from her charismatic persona, to how she's always surrounded by the most amazing people (she's even pals with Emma Stone and Adele), she fought for women's equal pay and she might be a two-time Academy Award winner soon, too.
The Los Angeles Times has said that Joy is "very much Lawrence's movie," as she shines through it in what Russell himself has called his first-ever film centered around a woman.
Bustle is a little less glowing and notes Lawrence has even bigger competition for the Best Actress Oscar this year, with Cate Blanchett's performance in Carol and Brie Larson's performance in Room being hyped up to win awards, still, Oscar night is still weeks away, on February 28!
