Veteran Bollywood Actress Sadhana Dies at 74 - Cremation Held in Mumbai

Veteran Bollywood actress, Sadhana died on Friday morning in Mumbai. The 74-year-old actress was reportedly suffering from a tumor. According to Bollywoodlife.com, the cremation will take place on Saturday at her residence in Mumbai.

Sadhana was known in Indian Film Industry for the blockbuster movies like Mera Saaya and Waqt. She was even nominated in 1964 for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role in Woh Kaun Thi. Her portrayal in mystery thriller films like Anita, Woh Kaun Thi and Mera Saya gave her the title of "Mystery Girl."

According to Upperstall, the actress was named after the legendary dancer, Sadhona Bos, as she showed a keen interest in cinema right from her childhood. Sadhana made her debut by playing Sheila Ramani's sister in 1958s Abana and after two years, she was cast opposite Joy Mukherji in superhit film, Love in Simla. In Love in Simla, she portrayed a simple, bespectacled girl who transformed herself to woe the hero. The transformation was magical and it gave the actress her Audrey Hepburn like fringe-cut that went on the be called The Sadhana Cut in India.

Rediff.com reports that the song, "Jhumka Gira Re" from Mera Saya, became so popular in India that audience in cinema halls used to throw coins at the screen.

In 1968, Sadhana had health issues due to her thyroid problem, which she got treatment for at a hospital in Boston. After returning home, the actress starred in the super-hit films, Intaquam, Ek Phool Do Mali and Geeta Mera Naam.

In 2014, the actress was in the news for suffering from a tumor. She reportedly had a small lesion in her mouth that was cancerous and for the proper treatment, the actress went into surgery.
