Arena League For Tim Tebow? Orlando Predators Owner Offers QB A Job
According to the Orlando Sentinel, embattled second-string Jets quarterback Tim Tebow may have a home waiting for him when he inevitably gets cut from the NFL's New York Jets. But he's probably not going to like where.
Brett Bouchy, owner of the Arena Football League's Orlando Predators, says that he has "a contract waiting" for Tebow, should he decide to take it.
"I think he would definitely improve as a quarterback in our league," Bouchy says of the second-stringer that helped the Denver Broncos make an improbable playoff run before struggling with the Jets.
Tebow, who broke an uncountable amount of records in high school and college, has struggled to find a place in the NFL. Tebow left college with two national championships, a Heisman trophy (which he one as a sophomore, a first in college football history) and the Southeastern Conference's all-time records for career passing efficiency and total rushing touchdowns.
However, once he entered the NFL it seems a switch was flipped. In his only season as a starter, Tebow completed less than half of his passes and fumbled the ball 13 times. With a cut from the New York Jets likely, Bouchy says he's more than willing to help the young QB improve his accuracy as a member of his team.
"Everything in the Arena League is just so much faster and quicker and predicated on accuracy. Whenever Tim is willing, we have a contract waiting for him to sign," Bouchy said.
If Tebow does end up going to the Arena League, he'll be hoping for a comeback a la Super Bowl Champion QB Kurt Warner, who dropped out of the NFL to hone his game with the AFL's Iowa Barnstormers.
"You hear people talk about what made me the player I was, they usually look at a couple of different things," Warner said to a reporter for ArenaFootball.com. "One is the quick release. The other is being able to diagnose defenses and accurately placing the football where I needed to put it. ... I really think the AFLhelped me develop those skills. You have less time in the pocket, the pocket is much smaller, it is a faster game and it is a shorter field. The windows are so tight you have to be accurate, you have to be able to anticipate and you have to be able to fit it into tight windows. Those things that are so pertinent in the AFL game, and it helped me be successful there and helped me be successful at the NFL level."
What do you think? Should Tebow take his talents to Orlando or does he deserve another shot in the NFL? (I'm torn myself as I had to watch Tebow systematically dismantle my high school football team twice a year, but he did lead my beloved Gators to the Promised Land).
