Carnie Wilson Challenges Nerve Disorder: "Wilson Phillips" Singer Reveals Bell's Palsy Diagnosis via Twiter
Carnie Wilson, a member of the pop trio "Wilson Phillips," reveals via Twitter that she's been struggling with a nerve disorder called Bell's Palsy, which causes paralysis, usually temporarily, of the muscles on one side of the face.
On March 14th, the 44-year-old singer tweeted about her recent diagnosis:
"Just wanted you all 2 know that I have Bell's Palsy on lf side of face right now. Scary, unfortunate, but it goes away. A challenge! Love u."
The former TV host also added that she's been treating the condition with acupuncture, and "IT'S WORKING," according to her recent tweets.
Carnie previously hinted that she was dealing with an obstacle when she first tweeted on March 12th:
"Thought today - when life suddenly gives you a hurdle..... JUMP over it and don't look back ."
Followed by:
"I'm having such challenges right now - I'm praying for peace, health , order and serenity. Love everyone's tweets back to me. Luv u allxxxx"
Another challenge that Wilson has also struggled with for years is her weight, notes E! News, and last March the mother of two decided to get lap-band surgery, despite undergoing gastric bypass in 1999.
Fans of the "Hold On" singer have been showing their constant support by sending "well wishes" and posting words of encouragement to Wilson's Twitter page. She seems to be very appreciative and positive as she admits to "getting better" each day.
CBS explains her disorder:
Bell's Palsy is a disorder of the nerve that controls movement of the muscles in the face. The nerve is called the facial or seventh or cranial nerve. Once the nerve is damaged, weakness or paralysis of the facial muscles sets in. Bell's palsy which affects about 30,000 to 40,000 people a year in the United States, involves damage to that seventh cranial (facial) nerve.
Many people who have Bell's Palsy may experience the following side effects: difficulty closing one eye or both, loss of control of facial muscles
problems smiling or frowning, dry mouth, and headaches.
It is not clear what the exact cause of Bell's Palsy is, but it has been linked to exposure to a viral infection, according to Huffington Post, and can be brought on by stress.
Carnie is the daughter of Brian Wilson, an iconic member of The Beach Boys. She was a member of Wilson Phillips, a pop music group made up of her and younger sister Wendy, along with childhood friend Chynna Phillips. The three members made their comback when they performed one of their most popular songs "Hold On" at the end of the 2011 comedy movie "Bridesmaids," passing on their 90's smash hit to this generation.
It looks like WIlson will have to take adivce from her own song and "hold on for one more day" as she challenges her Bell's Palsy disorder.
