‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’: Emma Watson Excited for “Black Hermione”
Back when it was announced that Noma Dumezweni would be playing Hermione Granger in the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, fans of the famed series seemed to be confused – largely because Dumezweni is an African American. With that, the whole "black Hermione" thing started and people did their typical thing of being offended over something dumb. But, as it happens, Emma Watson has come out saying that she cannot wait to see Dumezweni in the role.
You know why she's cool with a black Hermione? Because, seriously, who cares...
Anyway, Watson recently tweeted her excitement regarding the news, loading it up with hearts galore.
And she's not the first one to come out in support of the whole "black Hermione" thing; Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling shut fans down by noting that the book describes the young wizard as "brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever," and not specifically white.
Therefore, to anyone else outraged over the fact that Noma Dumezwent is playing Hermione Granger, stop it.
Harry Potter and the Currsed Child is a play which takes play 19 years after The Deathly Hallows ended. Per The Huffington Post, the play will focus largely on Potter as an "overworked employee of the Minstry of Magic, a husband and a father of three school-age children."
