Henry Bromell Dies: 'Homeland' Executive Producer & Writer Killed by Heart Attack at Age 66; Showtime Family WIll Miss the Talented Man
"Homeland" executive producer & writer Henry Bromell has died from a heart attack at age 66. The Showtime TV series veteran reportedly died on Monday at a hospital in the Los Angeles area, his longtime agent & friend Peter Benedek stated.
According to TV Guide, Bromell went to the hospital Monday afternoon because he was not feeling well and allegedly suffered the heart attack there.
"Henry was an immensely talented and prolific writer, director and showrunner, and his work on 'Brotherhood' and 'Homeland' was nothing short of brilliant," the statement said. "His passion, warmth, humor and generosity will be greatly missed. Our hearts and thoughts go out to his wife and family."
LA Times noted that Bromell worked on the Emmy-award-winning show 'Homeland' since its inception in 2011, starting first as a consulting producer and moving up to executive producer. He shared in the show's Best Drama Series Emmy & Golden Globe wins last year.
"We are deeply saddened by our dear friend Henry Bromell, who has been part of the Showtime family for over a decade," Showtime executives stated.
His other TV credits, besides the beloved 'Homeland,' included Northern Exposure, Chicago Hope, Rubicon and Brotherhood. In 1992, he won a Humanitas Prize for the TV drama I'll Fly Away, reports USA Today.
A man of many talents, Henry was also the author of several books, including "Little America," which was nominated for a Los Angeles Times Book Prize. In addition, Bromell wrote and directed two feature films, "Panic" and "Last Call," states LA Times.
The Showtime sensation is survived by his wife, Sarah, and sons William and Jake, according to his agent. Funeral plans weren't immediately announced.
In recent months, Bromell had been particularly involved in luring new staff members to the Homeland's writers room ahead of the show's third season. Among the hires: James Yoshimura, who had worked with Bromell on Homicide during the 1990s, reveals Hollywood Reporter.
Homeland's 3rd season will be debuting in the fall on September 29th 2013 in an earlier,new,time slot of 9pm. The show's executive producer will be dearly missed.
