HBO announced that they are ending their sleepy Laura Dern show "Enlightened" after two seasons.

The critically-acclaimed show that netted Laura Dern a Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy Actress failed to find an audience and, according to a statement released by HBO on Tuesday, will not return for a third season.

HBO said that they are proud of the show despite its cancellation and said axing the show was a "very difficult decision."

Enlightened, which premiered in October of 2011, followed a manic-depressive executive named Amy Jellicoe. After her life careens out of control, she has a spiritual awakening in rehab, becomes an activist and attempts to put herself back together.

Viewership remained in the ratings cellar throughout the show's run. The show had only 130,000 viewers the week before the Season 2 finale.

The show was created by writer Mike White and Dern, who HBO said they "we look forward to working with...in the future."

Laura Dern is perhaps best known for her role in the 1993 Michael Crichton movie adaptation of Jurassic Park. Recently she starred alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master.
