A URL glitch involving social networking photo sharing site Instagram caused a glitch with social media giant Facebook today (Thursday March 21). The Instagr website URL shortener instagr.am is causing major problems for social media users. As a result of the issues, users can't post photos across Twitter and Facebook. The Instagram photo app uses the URL shortener by default, meaning any photos you share can't be viewed at the moment.
According to various reports it looks like the glitch may have been fixed in most cases. A Facebook spokesperson told The Verge that the glitch should be resolved soon. "We were making improvements to our domain management, and there were a few technical issues in the migration."
In the meantime, some users have found that by using the full name link for Instagram ie: instagram.com/p/xxx will help solve the problem. The last time Instagram went down with outage problems, the photo app took down multiple social media outlets with it.
Likely this issue will be completely resolved by dinner time Thursday evening so users can get back to Instagramming photos of their food and sharing it with friends. It's funny how even a temporary issue with any of the major social media sites results in widespread panic across the Internet. Don't worry people, everything will be fine soon!
Instagram has been gaining popularity recently with major celebrities sharing their photos via the photo app. As a result fans across the world use the site to follow their favorite celebs and check up on what they are doing. Another major plus for Instagram is the integration with Twitter and Facebook, allowing millions of people to share their photos via the other social media websites. Here is to hoping the URL issue gets resolved very soon. It sounds like it's already getting fixed as I write this.
