Oscar nominations were announced this morning and, not surprisingly, people have a lot to say about it. From the #OscarsStillSoWhite controversy to celeb freak-outs, reactions on Twitter to this morning's nominations did not disappoint. So what were people saying? Let's take a look...
Chris Rock, who is set to host the show on Feb. 28, got his jokes started off early:
The Oscar noms were announced today. We now know who's going to be throwing up at the Vanity Fair party. #Oscars https://t.co/on52RUFkQD

Meanwhile, stars who were nominated took to Twitter to thank the Academy and express their delight. Lady Gaga, Brie Larson, Steve Carell and Sam Smith all weighed in:

On a darker note, the majority of backlash this morning is centering on the #OscarsStillSoWhite controversy. Last year, #OscarsSoWhite trended on Twitter following the announcement that no people of color had been nominated in any of the four acting categories. People were also lamenting the general lack of diversity in Hollywood and in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, in general. This year fared no better, as yet again no people of color were nominated in any of the big categories. Creed and Straight Outta Compton were also left off of the best picture category. This prompted the hashtag #OscarsStillSoWhite from fans, critics and filmmakers who are outraged by the lack of diversity:

Zero nonwhite actors have been nominated for Oscars. There's no excuse. https://t.co/qjL51TTcx5 #OscarNoms pic.twitter.com/zsonGhEHZy — Tribeca (@Tribeca) January 14, 2016
Most people did agree, however, that Leonardo DiCaprio's nomination was much deserved. The actor, who is perhaps most famous for always being the bridesmaid and never the bride when it comes to winning Oscars, is at the top of everyone's list to win best actor this year. Fans are freaking out about the possibility:
It's Leo's year. I'm pretty certain it's Leo's year. #OscarNoms — Jayne Milburn (@Jayne_Milburn) January 14, 2016
This could finally, maybe, fingers crossed, be @LeoDiCaprio's year: https://t.co/b31npL2GRx #OscarNoms pic.twitter.com/FnHiDMSq0D

And although the Oscars may not be ethnically diverse, several non-American films (Go Canada! And Great Britain!) are having a big moment with the Oscars:

So many British #OscarNoms this year! Congratulations and good luck to them all! pic.twitter.com/nPkNKZ0FOT — British Embassy (@UKinUSA) January 14, 2016
Perhaps columnist for the Washington Post, Alexandra Petri, summed it up best with her joke referring to The Revenant, which was the ultimate winner today with 12 nominations:
really don't want to see the REVENANT but I guess I'll have to grin and bear it
— Alexandra Petri (@petridishes) January 14, 2016
The full list of Oscar nominations can be viewed on the official Oscar website. Winners will be announced during a live ceremony to be shown on ABC Feb. 28.
