Days after Eva Green lost the Golden Globe for her magnificent performance as Vanessa Ives in Penny Dreadful, the Showtime horror fantasy series announces its return. With a May 1st release date, season 3 promises all the witches, werewolves, demons and creepiness that have made the 19th century show totally addictive.
According to TV Line, the period show, which also stars Josh Hartnett as an American werewolf in London, will come back to the small screen on the first day of May for a 9-episode season. The announcement was made in Pasadena this past Tuesday, at Showtime's panel in the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
Besides its regular cast, which includes Timothy Dalton as sir Malcolm and Reeve Carney as Dorian Grey, the third season will see a few new stars joining in such as Spooks' Shazad Latif (who will be playing Dr. Jekyll), Christian Camargo from Dexter, Sam Barnett from Jupiter Ascending, Jessica Barden from Far From the Madding Crowd and Hell on Wheels star Wes Studi.
Patti LuPone will also come back after her amazing sting in the second season, only she will be playing a new American character, Dr. Seward, instead of last season's fascinating Cut-Wife.
"John Logan's brilliant writing and this amazingly talented ensemble continue to draw a passionate, global fan base into the meticulously crafted world of Penny Dreadful," wrote Showtime in a recent press release, Den of Geek reports. "Together with our wonderful partners at Sky Atlantic, we're excited to see what new haunts John and his team have in store for season three."
Logan, who created the show and is also its main writer, has in the past worked on projects like the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall, as well as collaborating with Martin Scorsese on Hugo and The Aviator.
Although the show hasn't become the most popular one, it was renewed for a third season while the second one was still airing last spring.
