Thanks to the UK Scout Association's Twitter account, we have been getting some great shots of the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge volunteering today as she learns tree climbing, outdoor cooking and fire lighting. Middleton braved the snow arriving a little later than scheduled to the Great Tower Scout Camp in Cumbria, wrapped in a warm coat, wool cap and sporting a Scouts neckerchief. She joined the adult volunteers in order to learn how to teach the scouts the essentials for outdoor survival. Did anyone ask her about her baby's gender or name?
The Scouts already have well over a half million members with nearly 35,000 more young people wanting to join. Middleton is one of many adult volunteers, but many more are needed. Kate occasionally helps out a Scout group in North Wales, close to her home.
According to UK Chief Scout Bear Grylls (of "Man Vs Wild" fame) : "The Duchess has an incredibly busy life yet, since she joined the Scouts, she has so generously managed to volunteer some incredible time to help out and get involved with her local group. Over the last few years it has been our mission to make it easier for adults to give as much or as little as they are able - it is how we change our society: many people doing a little bit."
Kate apparently exceeded at bread making, with many volunteers complimenting her finished product. Later she instructed some young Scouts on what she learned, asking, "Who wants a go next?" as they learned how to light a campfire from the pregnant royal. As the snow came down even harder, Kate wrapped up her visit as the children enjoyed some hot chocolate.
She kept her baby bump warm today and managed to get away from the event without any prying questions. After today's events, it looks like her child will be a great scout under her tutelage. Kate is reportedly hoping for a son while her husband, Prince William, wants a daughter.
