Gotham has had its share of quirky but terrifying villains like Jada Pinkett-Smith's Fish Mooney and James Frain's Theo Galavan. However, there is no doubt that Cameron Monaghan's Jerome Valeska is the undisputed fan favorite. The show's version of the Joker may have been killed off early in the second season, but Ben McKenzie has just confirmed that we haven't seen the last of Jerome!
According to ComicBook.com, McKenzie recently attended the Wizard World Comic-Con in New Orleans, where the panel moderator asked if the producers can bring Jerome back to the show. The former OC actor had a very hopeful response.
"Not only can we but we might," McKenzie said, adding that it won't just be Jerome who could return to Gotham.
"I can't say definitively but yes. I'll put it this way: almost nobody that you've seen go away is dead. They are all able to come back," he said.
But before you start wondering if Jerome's death was staged or if Gotham will turn him into the new Jon Snow, McKenzie might simply be implying that the character could appear in a flashback or dream sequence. Nevertheless, McKenzie is a huge fan of Monaghan, whose performance suggests that he might have taken Maniacal Laughter 101 from The Joker voice actor Mark Hamill.
"He was terrific wasn't he?" McKenzie says of his costar. "Cameron Monaghan, the actor, just crushed it."
Although the show's producers have never confirmed that Jerome is actually the Joker, Monaghan's character is believed to be the inspiration that led to the birth of the villain. After all, it's hard to miss the evil grin and that trademark laugh that fellow villain Theo Galavan has considered "fabulous."
