Demaryius Thomas of the Denver Broncos had more reason to celebrate beyond just defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers on January 17. His mother Katina Smith was present during the game and for the first time ever, she got to see her son play and take the NFL playoff victory after recently being released from prison.
The Denver Broncos wide receiver already played six seasons in the NFL but even though he had a very successful career, his team's recent win will definitely be the most memorable for the professional football star. This marks Smith's first experience watching her son on the field.

Smith was arrested back in 1999 when Thomas was just 11 years old. She and Thomas' grandmother were caught running a cocaine business and she was sentenced to over 20 years of imprisonment after she declined to take the stand and testify against her mother.
Her sentenced was reduced by President Barack Obama himself along with other 45 drug offenders. The President believed that these cases were not extreme and said that they deserved a "second chance."
"These men and women were not hardened criminals, but the overwhelming majority had been sentenced to at least 20 years," Obama said in a Facebook video. "I believe that at its heart, America is a nation of second chances. And I believe these folks deserve their second chance.”
After 15 long years, the mother and son finally got to be with each other's arms and she could possibly be Thomas' lucky charm following their 23-16 win against the Steelers.
“It’s very special,” Thomas told ESPN. “She came out, got to see us win a game, her first time here, her first time seeing me play. It felt great, a really special feeling.”
