The punk band My Chemical Romance has confirmed that the 12 year old group will break up in an official statement on their website. The Grammy-nominated group will not be going on any more tours or making new music together.

The website statement read:

"Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure."

My Chemical Romance was very popular back in the early 2000s with "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" being one of their biggest hits according to Billboard.

Band leader Gerard Way shared on his Twitter, "Beyond any sadness, what I feel the most is pride."

Many fans have expressed their sadness on the web.

"Please tell me this is all a bad dream and ill wake up tomm and this will never have happened. :( I cant believe MCR is dead. Nooooo!"

"I'm sitting here, crying, because surely this is just an early April Fools' Joke. And it's not funny."

"This band helped me through tough times.. But we still have their music to help us through."

RIP MCR!
