CBS' hit Sunday night reality show "The Amazing Race" had its sixth episode this season last night, March 24. The network issued an apology to start off the show after last week's (March 17) controversy. In case you missed the background you read more here. Basically CBS upset a lot of people when they taped a leg of the race in Hanoi, Vietnam and decided to use wreckage from a B-52 as a part of a prop. They also had contestants learn a Communist song performed by children. This sparked outrage among many due to the insensitivity shown towards Vietnam veterans. Season 22 continued Sunday night with the sixth leg of the race and the teams leaving Vietnam for Africa.
Before the March 24 episode, CBS aired the following apology: "Parts of last Sunday's episode, filmed in Vietnam, were insensitive to a group that is very important to us -- our nation's veterans. We want to apologize to veterans, particularly those who served in Vietnam, as well as to their families and any viewers who were offended by the broadcast. All of us here have the most profound respect for the men and women who fight for our country."
This was following public outrage and VFW national commander John Hamilton a statement to CBS head honcho Les Moonves. Part of the statement read, "The B-52 scene, as well as the young people singing a propaganda song, was totally unnecessary to the show's plot, which speaks volumes about naive producers who think they're in charge when they are not."
So what do you think, was this apology from CBS enough? Comment below with your thoughts.
As for the show itself, the teams traveled to Africa. Pam and Winnie finished last week as the first place team, so they are the first to travel to Botswana and Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. However, very quickly the hockey player friends Anthony and Bates take the lead. Each team needs to help Bushmen dig up scorpions.
The next roadblock involved teams either trying to start a fire with a stick or creating a contraption to capture a fowl. A number of teams had a lot of trouble with the fire and had to actually go back try the fowl road block.
When all is said and done, Anthony and Bates get to the pit stop, Meno A Kwena Safari Camp, first. In second place are Pam and Winnie, third place Chuck and Wynona, YouTube stars Joey and Meghan are fourth, Caroline and Jen fifth, and the moms Mona and Beth are in sixth place. Coming in last place are Max and Katie, but they luck out because there are no eliminations this leg of the race.
So what did you think of this week's "The Amazing Race?"
