Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, is a celebrated search and rescue Pilot for the Royal Air Force (RAF) but his future with the organization looks bleak as the helicopter company is to be sold to America's Bristow Helicopters. This will privatize the helicopter company, disallowing the Royal Air Force to use them, leaving pilots like Prince William seemingly out of a job. What will the royal father-to-be do now? How does his wife, the 5-months pregnant Kate Middleton, feel about this turn of events?

The search and rescue has employed members of the RAF, the Royal Navy, and the Maritime & Coastguard Agency for rescue maneuvers for about 70 years. However, the government has planned to privatize it for years ultimately coming to an agreement just recently.

According to the first reports by The Sun:

"The award of the £1.6 billion [$2.42 billion / €1.88 billion] deal to Bristow Helicopters ends 70 years of a service run by RAF and Royal Navy squadrons. It also spells the end of the use of the iconic Sea King choppers - flown by the Duke of Cambridge - in search-and-rescue work from 2016."

In terms of Prince William being out of a job, the future of current air and ground crews is uncertain. Some are expected to try to join the new private flight service but the fear of lost jobs is ever-present.

So will William apply to join the privatized helicopter service after the sale? Surely he does not HAVE to, he is a prince after all. Plus his life is about to become much more busy with a baby on the way. William reportedly wants a daughter and Kate says she wants a son. Either way, parenting is a full-time job in itself. Maybe he will at least take this lay off as a good time to spend with Kate before the baby arrives. Who knows, though? We will all have to wait and see how things turn out for the royal couple and their child who is due in July.
