Chris Brown opened up to the On Air with Ryan Seacrest crew about the infamous 2009 domestic violence incident between himself and Rihanna this morning. During his first ever visit to Seacrest's radio show, Brown covered a number of issues in his recent life.
Brown admitted that "didn't know" whether his current girlfriend Rihanna would take him back after a physical altercation between the couple left RiRi battered and bruised.
"I just tried my best to be the best man I could be over the years and just show her how remorseful and sorry I was for the incident," Brown said."
That time was probably the worst part of my life and being that she has and she's a wonderful person I'm eternally grateful and thankful."
The couple appears to be back on-track after a long and rocky period apart.
"It's still like we're kids," said Brown. "I try not to be too grown and be like, 'Lets have candlelight dinner every night.' I try to make sure everything is fun. It has to be fun and it has to be genuine."
Brown admits that, while he may have won back Rihanna, he may never win back fans that he lost over the incident.
"People are entitled to their opinions. I can't go around blaming," he said.
"It's all about my responsibility and me growing up as a man. So I think now that I'm becoming older, and trying to mature in this life under the public eye at all times, I have to focus on doing the right thing and being more of a humble individual."
Though he isn't going to blame anyone else for that fateful night, he is quick to take blame upon himself.
"I could put that on my age but that would just be making an excuse, said Brown. "I think for me that at age 18, 19 I was capable of writing and producing songs, so I'm also capable of making the right choices. So I think it's about a learning process now. Being at that young age I can tell you I was arrogant and definitely hotheaded. Everybody has a temper, but for me it was not knowing how to control it when I thought I had the world in my hands."
Brown said that he woke up after the spat and realized that he could "lose it all."
"And I'm not just saying fame or stardom because that's not what it's about. I'm talking about dignity [and] integrity. You know, you lose yourself in a way. So that process of me having to deal with any trials and tribulations I went through at that time, it was a learning step for me. Everything was learning, and I learned from certain mistakes, and I'm getting better as the days come."
