Over the years, Broadway has spawned, fostered, and even shot down some of the biggest film stars in the world. From mega-stars like Bruce Willis and Al Pacino, to lesser known stars, some of the most prominent names in Hollywood took center stage on Broadway in 2015. Plenty of new names are preparing to take their roles into the new year, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Fully Committed) and Lypita Nyong'o (Eclipsed). London's West End will also host a handful of huge stars on stage in 2016, including Matthew Perry and Uzo Aduba. This inclusion of high-profile actors is expected to boost ticket demand both stateside and across the pond.

In January 2015, it was announced that singer/actress Jennifer Hudson would join The Color Purple as Shug Avery, and shortly thereafter Danielle Brooks from the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black joined the cast. At its launch in November resale tickets for The Color Purple averaged $235 and currently averages $255 across all scheduled dates into 2016, according to the TiqIQ database. To close out the last week of 2015, The Color Purple grossed $1,008,774, and numbers are expected to remain consistent into 2016.

Wayne Brady, a comedian and actor best known for his role on Whose Line Is It Anyway?, took the role of Lola in Kinky Boots this past November, and his presence bumped ticket averages slightly on the secondary market. As it stands, Kinky Boots tickets through early 2016 are averaging $189 on the secondary ticket market.

This upcoming Spring, Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson will join the cast of Fully Committed, the restaurant-world comedy by Becky Mode. Because the production is a one-man show that will allow Ferguson to play all 40 characters, the show's success will quite literally be a direct correlation of his role. Also upcoming in 2016, superstar actress Nupita Nyong'o will be coming to Broadway to reprise the role she is currently playing off-Broadway in the new production of Eclipsed, and tickets on the secondary market are already booming. The show will launch at the end of February, and tickets for Eclipsed are already averaging $233, a number that will likely land the show a spot in the top 15 for Broadway productions. Nyong'o's recent role as Maz in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (which was crowned the top grossing film of all time in the U.S.), is a likely factor in the pricey secondary tickets.

Major film stars are expected to generate similar demand for West End productions in 2016. Through its rich history in theater and music, London's West End is undoubtedly a place for top actors to shine. In 2016 Friends star Matthew Perry will lead the cast of The End Of Longing, his playwriting debut at London's Playhouse Theatre. The End Of Longing will have a limited run from February 2-May 14, and fans from around the world are likely to make travel arrangements to see the major production live. Also on the West End in 2016, Orange is the New Black Emmy-winner Uzo Aduba will star in a new, contemporary version of Jean Genet's The Maids, which will launch on February 20 at London's Trafalgar Studios. Aduba's theater credits include Coram Boy and Godspell on Broadway.
