Following it's debut last week, ABC's new TV Show "Splash" continued its search for the best celebrity diver as the remaining 5 contestants were set to jump into Week 2: Ndamukong Suh, Drake Bell, Chuy Bravo, Nicole Eggert and Kendra Wilkinson.
However, a change to the celeb lineup was made on Tuesday night's episode, when the announcement was made that contestant Chuy Bravo suffered a "freak accident" and would no longer be able to compete. After co-hosts Joey Lawrence and Charissa Thompson revealed that Chelsea Handler's side-kick broke his heel when he jumped off a diving board in training, former Olympic soccer player Brandi Chastain made her "Splash" debut. The athlete proved to "kick" up the competition when she took Chuy's place and beat out Ndamukong Suh in this weeks dive-off.
Chastain is mostly known for stripping down to her sports bra and running around the soccer field after winning the Women's World Cup game in 1999. She had been training as a backup for the show, and ABC finally called Brandi up to the high board as she led off the celebrity dives in week 2.
The soccer star springs off the episode with a tumbling dive and wins over the judges for its "higher degree of difficulty." She earned an average score of 7. TV star Drake Bell dives in next & also does well technically, earning him a 7.75 average. Former "Baywaych" star Nicole Eggert follows with a decent dive, also pulling a 7.75 average. Detroit Lion Ndamukong Suh tackles diving again (after getting beat up by the board in rehearsal), and redeems himself with a 6.75 scored- dive. Hugh Hefner's former girlfriend Kendra Wilkinson makes her dramatic diving debut lastly. After budding heads with her coach and facing her diving fears (while her adorable son Hank covered his eyes from the audience), Kendra's minimal-splash dive was awarded a 7.75 average.
The two bottom celebrities of the night were Brandi Chastain and Ndamukong Suh (positions held by Katherine Webb & Keshia Knight Pulliam last week). The two athletes faced-off in a dive-off, where they performed the same "inward pike" dive, but Chastain showed better form than Suh.
Judges David Boudia and Steve Foley revealed that they see more potential in Brandi Chastain, and Suh's career as a celebrity diver quickly comes to an end. Upon being eliminated, Suh told show host Joey Lawrence, "It's time to get to real work."
With Suh heading back to the "Lion's den" for "real work," the football star did admit that "Splash" helped him get into even better physical shape for the Detroit Lions' offseason program, reports DetroitLions.com.
"I had a great time on the show," Suh told the website. "I really increased my flexibility and it was an amazing challenge for my body and mind."
After Suh's departure from "Splash," week 2 still has viewers skeptical about the judge's decisions. One viewer tweeted:
"The scores given by the judges on "Splash" would be more accurate if they were pulled randomly from a bingo wheel."
Others are even still skeptical about the show in general:
"I have discovered the worst tv show ever produced... @SplashABC somebody would literally have to pay me to watch it #splash #terrible"
Will ABC's ratings take a dive after premiering this show? Stay tuned...
