Season 4 of NBC's "The Voice" had its second episode last night with the second blind auditions. There was a lot of build up to Usher and Shakira's debut as new judges, taking over for Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green. Based on what I saw and the reaction of others it looks like they fit right in. Both judges got into the swing of things right away going head to head with veterans Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. So now we are on to episode 2 with the blind auditions continuing. How will Shakira and Usher fare and will we find another singer as good as Monday night's Judith Hill?
All but one singer got a coach on last night's "The Voice." Six singers got on stage and sang their hearts out for the judges. Unlike Monday night there wasn't a ton of love thrown Blake Shelton's way. He usually can use the whole "I had the last two winners of 'The Voice' on my team" shtick, but that wasn't working Tuesday night.
The first singer up was a 27-year-old model from Arkansas, Josiah Hawley. He may be a perfect example of why "The Voice" is different than "American Idol" or "X Factor." Hawley will have to get onto a team with his voice alone. His good looks won't be helping him during the blind auditions. Josiah sings Maroon 5's "Sunday Morning" which is a bold choice considering it's a Adam Levine song. He gets the Maroon 5 singer to turn around along with Usher and Blake Shelton. Josiah ends up going on Usher's team. What's that about? The guy sings an Adam Levine song then chooses Usher over Levine?
A folk duo from Idaho was up next. Midas Whale blew the judges away, getting all four to turn their chairs around. They ended up choosing Adam Levine as their judge. 35-year-old Abraham McDonald had to follow Midas Whale and he did the exact opposite, not getting any of the judges to turn their chairs around.
The next singer Cathia sang a Spanish song, getting Shakira, Usher, and Blake Shelton to turn around. Cathia ended up going with Shakira as her coach. The final singer, and arguably the best of the night, was Sarah Simmons. She got all four judges to turn around and beg for her to pick them . She ended up going with Adam Levine, leaving Blake Shelton with no new team members from Tuesday night.
I still don't think any of the performances Tuesday night were as good as Judith Hill's season 4 premiere performance. As of the end of the first two blind auditions, Blake Shelton has three team members, Usher has three, Adam Levine has three, and Shakira has four.
