Sonakshi Sinha started her Bollywood career by leading Salman Khan's action-comedy film, Dabangg, and now the gorgeous actress may star in the remake of 1986 comedy film, Chameli Ki Shaadi.
According to Mid-Day, both Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, who directed Khan starrer Lucky – No Time For Love, are reportedly going to make the remake of hit comedy film, Chameli Ki Shaadi with Sinha. Sapru was quoted by Mid-Day as saying:
"Talks are on with Sonakshi with whom we have worked earlier in Dabangg (2010), her debut film. We hope to make an official announcement in another four-five days."
The director also said that in Chameli Ki Shaadi, the character of Chameli is like a girl next door and only Sinha is among those actress in Bollywood who can pull off the character with perfection.
Chameli Ki Shaadi was directed by Basu Chatterjee and it featured Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh in the lead roles. Though the film was fairly average at the box office due to low production cost, but the film was critically acclaimed. The film followed the story of Charandas (played by Kapoor) who has taken an oath to stay celibate until he is 40 years of age but things suddenly changes for him when he meets Chameli (played by Singh), the daughter of a low-caste coal merchant and fall head-over-heels in love with her.
The makers also stated that in India there are still many places or families who are still against inter-caste marriages. Sapru also mentioned that the remake of Chameli Ki Shaadi will focus on these challenges. Desi Martini claimed the director stated, "The story of the film is relevant even in today's time. Our society still does not approve of inter-caste alliances; many relationships are throttled due to caste and class distinction. The remake will focus on love in the face of such challenges."
Sinha is currently shooting for Force 2 in which she will share the screen with Rocky Handsome star John Abraham.
