IDW Publishing continues to fight the future with The X-Files: Season 11 #6. FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) will learn what Gibson's Endgames [Part 1] are in writer Joe Harris and artist Matthew Dow Smith's installment.
As we previously mentioned, Mulder continues to run away from the law, dodging authorities wherever they may be hiding, as a wanted fugitive. After being cleared from all charges, the government continues to keep a close eye on Scully, especially by the all-powerful Gibson Praise. With Gibson controlling the investigative duo like puppets, how long will it take before everyone becomes under his possession?
During the last installment, The X-Mas Special issue featured Richard Langly (Dean Haglund), Melvin Frohike (Tom Braidwood), and John Fitzgerald Byers (Bruce Harwood) in their own subplot. The plot thickens as the Lone Gunmen deal with the aftermath of their alien abduction, which leads to Mulder and Scully taking the fight towards Gibson. It was nice to have the Lone Gunmen get their spotlight, now let's get on to the meat of the story.
Writer Joe Harris delivers a frightening glimpse of the "future" in the riveting opening pages. Defeated and alone, Mulder finds himself wandering around the fiery destruction of Washington D.C. Harris lets the readers question; is Mulder hallucinating? Or is this how the story arc, Endgames, really concludes? This critic is definitely excited to see where Harris is taking his readers.
In Mulder's apocalyptic nightmare, artist Matthew Dow Smith captures the abandoned buildings and destroyed bridges in his cinematic-esque panels. Interestingly, if you notice in the background, the sun has been blocked out. Smith uses the light source from the burning flames to create the eerie atmosphere.
