AMC's hit drama "The Walking Dead" is coming to an end of its third season and by the sound of it, there is going to be a lot of blood. The season 3 finale, "Welcome to the Tombs," will air Sunday night March 31. According to reports, episode 16 could be a bloody mess. AMC also just released photo stills from the shows finale, which may or many not help fans try to figure out what will happen in the season's dramatic conclusion. The most-watched basic cable drama in TV history is heading for a blockbuster finale and we have the latest news and rumors surrounding the season three finale.
Despite the show getting rid of Glen Mazzara as showrunner and replacing him with lead writer Scott Gimple mid-season, the show continues to dominate in the ratings. In fact, the change seemed to have little to no impact on the show. Last Sunday's (March 24) episode of "The Walking Dead" scored over 10.9 million viewers making it TV's highest rated cable TV show last week.
Heading into the season finale of "The Walking Dead" there are a lot of unanswered questions. Arguably the biggest question is whether or not Rick Grimes' group of survivors stand up and defend the prison against the Governor? As Robert Kirman, the shows writer and executive producer says, it all is about building up for the final showdown. "The episodes are all about ramping up the conflict between the Governor and Rick," Kirkman says via TheClicker.Today.com. "It's about finding out where allegiances lie. There are a few surprises in store as to who is going to be doing what on which side. Those reveals are going to be startling."
Andrew Lincoln, who plays the shows star Rick Grimes tells Today, "Twenty-seven people die. It's safe to say it is all hands to pumps. It's a crazy season finale." If 27 people die in the finale there are likely to be a few regulars killed off. The show is known for not being afraid to get rid of central characters to the plot. Kirkman confirms this theory when he says there will be more of a focus on character development going forward. "We're not going to slow things down, but if I had a criticism of season three, it would be that we didn't focus on character development," Kirkman tells Today. "We're going to try to step it up a notch in that department."
In addition to the bloody finale, "The Walking Dead" Twitter account let fans see some pictures from the shows season 3 finale, which you can find here.
