Tonight (Thursday March 28) is the live voting results show for the top eight contestants on season 12 of "American Idol." The singers all performed last night in front of the judges and a live audience giving one last shot at trying to convince viewers they deserve to move on into the top seven. As usual, Candice Glover, Amber Holcomb, and Kree Harrison were the top singers last night further solidifying their status as the front runners to win season 12. However, after Wednesday night's Motown performances, there were a couple male singers who I think may be in trouble tonight. Devin Velez and Lazaro Arbos stick out as the two possible singers who could get voted off on Thursday night's results show.
It has been no secret that season 12 of "American Idol" has been dominated by the female contestants. The top four or five singers are all females. As of right now I would say (in no particular order) the top four singers are Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb, and Angie Miller. After those four, you can make an argument that Burnell Taylor could be next.
The theory that the females own this year's competition is apparent just by looking at the last few few weeks of "American Idol." Since the top 10 contestants were revealed (5 women and 5 men) the first two singers to be eliminated were men. Curtis Finch Jr. and Paul Jolley have been voted off, although I did think Finch Jr. was probably the strongest male singer. However, the fans got the voting right. In my opinion a male has a very slim chance of winning season 12 of "American Idol."
There are only three males left in the competition, Burnell Taylor Devin Velez, and Lazaro Arbos. In my opinion, Taylor is the strongest singer of the three and that was shown on Wednesday night's show. To me, the three worst performers last night were Velez, Arbos and Angie Miller. However, Miller should get some leeway from fans because she has consistently been at the top of the competition throughout season 12.
Arbos is a bit of a feel good story as he has a stutter that goes away when he signs. For this reason, fans may avoid voting him out just yet. However, all three male singers performed together on Wednesday night's "Idol" and it was horrendous. Taylor, Velez, and Arbos all performed The Temptations' "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)" and butchered the song. The judges even ripped into them with Nicki Minaj telling them to "get off the stage!"
It even looked at one point like the singers flubbed some lines in the song. Devin Velez told The Hollywood Reporter after the show, "I knew my lines and I learned the whole song on purpose because I thought that this might happen." Hmm, so whose fault was it Devin? Velez went on to describe the performance as a "trainwreck."
So who do you think will get voted off on tonight's "American Idol" results show? For me, it comes down to Devin Velez and Lazaro Arbos. I think America will be voting off Velez tonight. What do you think?
