On Tuesday (March 26), Pedro Quezada (a father of five from New Jersey) claimed his whopping $338 million Powerball jackpot winning - a total of $152 million after taxes. But it turns out Quezada can't cash his extravagant award until he pays off the $29,000 worth of child support he owes his baby mama. According to authorities, Quezada must "pay up in a timely manner" or else he could face jail time. The soon-to-be millionaire (maybe) hasn't been seen since Tuesday.
According to reports, authorities from Passaic County arrived at 44-year-old Quezada's bodega on Wednesday to resolve the issue, but the family had already fled after hearing about their legal troubles.
Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik released a statement saying the outstanding $29,000 has to be paid before Quezada can collect his winnings:
"The Sheriff's Office Warrant Squad is attempting to notify Mr. Quezada about the issue in an effort to have it resolved in a timely manner. Because of Mr. Quezada's large winnings, generally the New Jersey Division of Lottery would satisfy the judgment before all of the winnings are released. Like everyone else, until this warrant is satisfied, Mr. Quezada is subject to potential arrest."
Quezada has five children ranging in ages from 5-23 - several of his kids live in North Carolina with their mother. It remains unknown to whom the outstanding payments are supposed to be made.
Quezada, who immigrated from the Dominican Republic 26 years ago, said his family was poor during his short public appearance earlier this week. He did not speak about any financial troubles.
Authorities are still currently looking for Quezada. According to the New York Daily News, several random people are also trying to offer their support and advice (now that Quezada's looking at a fortune of millions... as long as he pays his child support).
