There was no shortage of cameos in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as original trilogy characters like Admiral Ackbar and Darth Vader (or his helmet, anyway) appeared throughout the film. However, it turns out that one of the most famous and powerful Jedi was supposed to show up in Episode VII as well! But what happened to Yoda's brief cameo in The Force Awakens?
The film's editors Mary Jo Markey and Maryann Brandon recently attended the 66th ACE Eddie Awards, where they told Entertainment Tonight that Frank Oz's iconic little Jedi was initially meant to appear briefly in J.J. Abrams' film.
"There was one point where we were actually thinking of having Yoda in the film, and then we decided not to," Brandon revealed, adding that Oz actually worked with them.
"Frank Oz came in for a day and did a whole bunch of Yoda and he was over the moon to do it - and we were tickled pink," she admitted.
So what happened to Yoda's scene in The Force Awakens? It may have suffered the same fate as several other scenes that were featured in the film's trailers, but never made it to the final cut. Abrams may have decided not to confuse audiences by iintroducing a character who had already died in Return of the Jedi.
We have recently reported that the director made a similar decision when he removed a scene where Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o) uses the Force to defeat a group of Stormtroopers.
However, that doesn't mean that Yoda was not in The Force Awakens. His voice, along with Obi-Wan Kenobi (both Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness provided the character's voice) were some of the sounds that Rey (Daisy Ridley) heard in her Force vision.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Visual Effects and Best Film Editing.
