Pride and Prejudice and Zombies star Douglas Booth may be known for his tendency to appear in film adaptations of literary classics, but the 23-year-old actor has just admitted that he tried out for a major role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2!
Booth recently spoke to Comic Book Resources, where he confirmed that he auditioned for the role of Harry Osborne opposite Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker.
"I screen-tested to be the Green Goblin in the last Spider-Man movie," Booth admitted. "That gave me a taste of it; it was super-exciting. It seems you sign on to those things and they become a big part of your life and a big part of your calendar."
Unfortunately, the Jupiter Ascending actor didn't get the role, which eventually went to Chronicle star Dane DeHaan. However, Booth doesn't feel so badly about missing out on the part.
"I enjoy the independence of doing lots of little things here and there," he said before referring to his infamous role in Worried About the Boy.
"I've played Boy George and so many different parts. I enjoy that, but I would love to throw myself into one of those [big-budget superhero] projects at the right time," he said.
He might not be playing a superhero (or supervillain) just yet, but Booth admits his Pride and Prejudice and Zombies character will be getting a lot of action. Sort of, anyway.
"He gets into some pretty scrappy moments," he said of Mr. Bingley. "He's definitely not as good of a fighter as Darcy or the other girls, but he is an officer. He does get involved. He gets himself into a few scrapes."
In addition to playing a unique version of Mr. Bingley, Booth has also played Romeo Montague in the 2013 film Romeo and Juliet and Pip in the BBC series adaptation of Great Expectations.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is directed by Burr Steers and also stars Lily James, Sam Riley, Bella Heathcote as well as Game of Thrones' Lena Headey and Charles Dance. The film will premiere on February 5.
