It looks like the "case of the century" is still just as riveting today as it was 20 years ago. FX recently released the viewing data for the premiere of its new show, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and it is great news for the network. With episode one being such a big hit, we take a look at what viewers can expect from this week's highly anticipated new episode.
In live viewings the show garnered 6.1 million views in key demographic 18-49. When post-live viewership was accounted for (DVR viewings, for instance), the show had a whopping 12 million views, making it the biggest debut ever for a drama on the network.
The show's next episode airs tonight and will feature the infamous Bronco chase scene, in which Simpson is trying to escape the authorities. The official description for the episode is as follows: "With O.J. Simpson (Cuba Gooding Jr.) missing in the white Bronco, Robert Shapiro (John Travolta) and Robert Kardashian (David Schwimmer) deal with the fallout, as the D.A.'s office and LAPD scramble to save face and find him."
According to Kato Kaelin (a witness in the case who was living on Simpson's property at the time of the murders), the episode will also feature some of his character. In a column for the New York Daily News, Kaelin writes, "The second episode shows Kato sitting with OJ's family when Robert Kardashian announces that OJ killed himself and reads the suicide note. I was never there. Did that actually happen? I don't know. I just know I wasn't there."
Aside from Kaelin's appearances and the infamous Bronco chase sequence, reports also claim that the episode will feature Shapiro (John Travolta) trying to salvage his reputation, as well as the religious side of Robert Kardashian (David Schwimmer).
The second episode of The People v. O.J. Simpson, titled "The Run of His Life," airs Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 10 pm ET on FX.
