WGN America continues with the premiere their new original series, Outsiders. In episode 3, entitled Messenger, Big Foster (David Morse) and Little Foster (Ryan Hurst) are trying to defend their mountaintop homestead before the outside world takes it away from them.
In the cold opening, a good of men are wrestling in the mood, fighting for the love of a woman. After beating everyone else, the winner walks up the woman, puts the ring on her finger, and claims her as his bride.
At the wedding, Hasil (Kyle Gallner) isn't too fond of Asa (Joe Anderson) being around. though a striking young woman first with Asa, he only wants to dance with G'Winn Farrell (Gillian Alexy). The entire crowd starts laughing at Asa after he trips on the dance floor. The laughing turns to show when they hear construction noises.
As the construction crew starts cutting down the trees, Sheriff Wade Houghton (Thomas J. Wright) is having a hard time connecting with his youngest son. Wade learns from his boy's teacher that there are scratches on his face. Though he's suspected of abusing the child, Wade explain to the teach that his sone means everything to him
Big Foster still considers Little Foster a failure for letting Asa beat him. In order to get back in Big Foster's good graces, Little Foster has to do something he doesn't want to. Though he doesn't want to, Asa has to return back to town and explain his cause. Asa is only going back because of his feelings for G'Winn.
Meanwhile Big Foster starts messing around with the construction equipment. Asa arrives at the town meeting, listening to the pros and cons of whether or not the Farrels should be kicked out. Taking the microphone, Asa gives a speech, which only aggravates the already angry crowd.
While waiting for Sally-Ann to come out of the bar, Hasil finds himself being interrogated by a beat cop. After being warned repeatedly, Hasil becomes a bigger nuisance to the cop. All of a sudden, Sally-Ann (Christina Jackson) watches as the police officer tases Hasil in the back.
We discover Wade has a connection to the Farrells, which leads back to his father. During his argument with his family, Wade gets the call that Hasil has been tased. Wade rushes into the prison cell and releases Hasil. Wade is trying to protect the Farrells but he can't do anything if they're causing nothing but trouble.
Asa ends up in a brawl against three drunk locals, who would love nothing more than to give him a beatdown. Asa manages to hold his own as he takes his beating and manages to get the upper-hand. Though Asa manages to win the fight, Little Foster commits an act of murder back in town.
Returning back to the mountaintop, G'Winn attempts to heal up Asa's bruises but ends up stripping his clothes off. Little Foster returns back to his home after G'Winn and Asa have had sex.
G'Winn pretends to be sleeping as Little Foster lies down next to her on the bed.
