30-year-old "Glee" star Cory Monteith has checked himself into rehab in order to receive treatment for his substance addiction problem. A representative of Monteith stated that he "voluntarily admitted himself into a treatment facility for substance addiction. He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery." His girlfriend and co-star, 26-year-old Leah Michele, has publicly shown her support for her beau's decision to seek help for his abuse issues.
Michele told People of her support and pride in her boyfriend:
"I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision. He really, really inspires me, and he motivates me and I think he's just so talented."
Monteith and Michele, who shared an on-screen romance on the popular FOX television series, publicly came out as a real-life couple in April 2012. The couple was recently together seen at a Los Angeles Kings hockey game on March 23rd.
"Glee" is currently in its fourth season and Monteith's character, Finn Hudson, will be missing for the last two episodes. His absence will be explained in the storyline. 20th Century Fox released a statement in support of Monteith's decision, saying:
"Cory is a beloved member of the Glee family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment. Everyone at the show wishes him well and looks forward to his return."
In 2011, Cory Monteith admitted that he previously checked into rehab as a 19-year-old because of substance abuse issues as well. At the time, Monteither said:
