Transformers star Shia LaBeouf stirred tabloids earlier this year when he was fired from what would have been his first Broadway production, "Orphans," citing "creative differences" with costar Alec Baldwin. LaBeouf then went on a Twitter rant and the drama escalated but eventually come to an end when the two reconciled via e-mail. The talented Ben Foster eventually replaced Shia. Unfortunately, "Late Show" host David Letterman felt that the issue had not been resolved and in last night's interview with 26-year-old actor he brought it all back up.
In the interview last night, Letterman was straight forward with his questioning: "Why did you get fired? ... What did you do to him?"
Shia calmly answered the question with:
"He's a good dude and the show is terrific. I got nothing bad to say. I'm pretty passionate and impulsive, and he's a very passionate individual as well and I think that impulsiveness and passion make for some fireworks."
He also dressed the "creative differences" that the "Orphans" press release mentioned when LaBeouf left, saying:"I think that's what you gotta say as sort of a business-savvy answer for what actually happened."
David then insisted that Baldwin and LaBeouf reconcile. Here is a video clip of the interview:
Mstarz recently reported on LaBeouf's departure from "Orphans." Here is an excerpt:
"Due to creative differences, the producers of 'Orphans' and Shia LaBeouf will be parting ways and he will not be continuing with the production," press representatives for the play said in a brief statement. "An announcement on the replacement for the role of 'Treat' will be made shortly."
The e-mail he received on Feb.19 from Sullivan reads as follows:
"I'm too old for disagreeable situations. you're one hell of a great actor. Alec is who he is. you are who you are. you two are i ncompatible. I should have known it. this one will haunt me. you tried to warn me. you said you were a different breed. I didn't get it. Dan"
Baldwin also reached out to LaBeouf via e-mail:
"I've been through this before. It's been a while. And perhaps some of the particulars are different. But it comes down to the fact that what we all do now is critical. Perhaps especially for you. When the change comes, how do we handle it, whether it be good or bad? What do we learn? I don't have an unkind word to say about you. You have my word. "
In reply to Baldwin, he simply responded:
"same. be well. good luck on the play. you'll be great."
