In what could become an ugly couple months for family and friends of the late pop icon Michael Jackson, the "Beat It" singer's family is suing concert promoter AEG Live over Jackson's 2009 death. With the trial beginning today (Tuesday April 2) in Los Angeles, AEG is reportedly going to argue Jackson is responsible for his own demise. Michael Jackson's kids, Prince and Paris, are also expected to testify in the wrongful death lawsuit.
The lawsuit brought forward by Michael Jackson's family against AEG is alleging the promoter is responsible for Jackson's death on June 25, 2009. Jackson died two weeks before he was set to being his "This Is It" comeback tour in London. Jackson's family is attempting to hold AEG responsible for hiring Conrad Murray, the doctor who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter after giving Jackson an anesthetic that allegedly caused the singer to die.
According to reports, it looks like there is a good chance this trial could last months. The Jackson family is seeking $40 billion from AEG because they are saying that Jackson would have earned that much through the rest of his life. It looks like this trial could get ugly as the Jackson family tries to prove AEG used negligence in hiring Murray to care for Jackson. The singer's family has to try to prove AEG could have predicted Murray would have used dangerous drugs in treating Jackson. Meanwhile, AEG is reportedly going to try and argue that Murray is actually an employee of Jackson's and that Jackson showed a history of peculiar behavior, including drug use.
In a CNN documentary titled, "Michael Jackson: The Final Days" AEG's lawyer Marvin Putnam was interviewed. Putnam defended AEG saying,"Mr. Jackson is a person who was known to doctor shop. He was known to be someone who would tell one doctor one thing and another doctor something else." Putnam also said, "This is a man who would show up in pajamas. This is a man who would stop traffic and get out and dance on top of his car. This is a man who would go to public events with a monkey named Bubbles. This is a man who said he slept in an oxygen chamber." The documentary airs on CNN this Friday April 5 at 10pm. According to CNN, there is also a chance Jackson's mother and kids (Prince and Paris) could be called to testify.
