Veteran actor George Clooney is set to star in Disney's Tomorrowland. The film takes its name from the section of Walt Disney World that contains "Space Mountain" and is presumably an attempt to revitalize that section of the park (much in the same way that Disney leveraged it's Pirates of the Caribbean ride with the Pirates of The Caribbean movie franchise). The film will also star Hugh Laurie (House).
The film will shoot in Vancouver and is slated to begin filming on August 1, according to the B.C. Film Commission.
The film was written under the working title of 1952, Tomorrowland and looks like it will be a live-action science-fiction feature. Disney almost certainly hopes that this film will add to its growing reputation as a sci-fi powerhouse after releasing The Avengers and gearing up toward a new trilogy of Star Wars films.
The film will be directed by Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird. Bird is also credited as a producer along with Damon Lindelof of Lost. Lindelof wrote the screenplay with veteran stuntman Jeff Jensen.
What do you think? Are you excited for a Tomorrowland movie? Will Disney become a sci-fi juggernaut? Does Tomorrowland in Walt Disney World need an update?
