Kendrick Lamar had a very successful night at the Grammy Awards earlier this month. But despite a slew of wins, the "Swimming Pools" singer was not honored with "Album of the Year" for his critically-acclaimed third studio record, To Pimp A Butterfly.
Check out the official list of Lamar's nominations for 2016:
To Pimp a Butterfly - Album of the Year, Best Rap Album (won)
"Alright" - Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance (won), Best Music Video, Best Rap Song (won)
"All Day" - Best Rap Song (as writer)
"These Walls" (with Bilal, Anna Wise and Thundercat) - Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (won)
"Never Catch Me" (with Flying Lotus) - Best Dance Recording
"Bad Blood" (with Taylor Swift) - Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Music Video (won)
The 28-year-old hip-hop superstar's amazing live performance during the show continues going viral online:
Well, beloved collaborator Taylor Swift ultimately snagged "Album of the Year" for 1989, and Lamar was totally cool with that.
Fellow emcee Eminem really hoped that Lamar would be recognized with this top achievement, although he had major doubts:
"I talked to Eminem about [the] Kendrick nominations. He seemed like he doubted if they would give him Album of the Year. Not because he doesn't deserve it, but he was telling me all the stories of people [who've] been snubbed for their amazing albums in hip-hop," Slaughterhouse hypeman KXNG Crooked recently told Juan Epstein of Rosenberg Radio. He was like, 'Yo man - I just really want [Kendrick] to get that [Grammy].'"
Here were the other nominees:
Alabama Shakes, Sound & Color
Chris Stapleton, Traveller
The Weeknd, Beauty Behind the Madness
