Things are definitely getting exciting for Iris West and Barry Allen in the second season of The Flash, especially now that they have discovered that their Earth-2 counterparts are married. Candice Patton recently confirmed that Iris might be seeing a new side to her relationship with Grant Gustin's Barry!
In an interview with TVLine, Patton was asked whether things will finally change for Earth-1 Iris and Barry now that they are aware that their Earth-2 selves are man and wife.
"Yes - in the sense that there's almost a seed planted, at least for Iris," Patton revealed before explaining how the discovery will change things for her character.
"This idea that they are married on Earth-2 and supposedly married in the future makes Iris start to wonder if maybe they are truly destined to be together," she said.
The actress also admitted that she had to play up on the difference between Earth-1 Iris and Detective West.
"I wanted her to be as strong as her father is on Earth-1," Patton said. "I wanted her to feel very tough and unapologetic and... not hardened but she has an exoskeleton to do the kind of work that she does."
It may have been fun to portray a new side to Iris, but Patton shared that she initially had some difficulties in taking on a completely different character.
"There were days on set that were hard for me, shooting scenes with Floyd Lawton and having Barry in the room, and then there's me as Detective West.... It was an unusual difference for me now being the 'alpha' in the room," she said. "It was kind of uncomfortable to play at first - our ["Welcome to Earth-Two"] director, Millicent Shelton, had to come over to me a couple of times and say, 'You're on the right track. Be fierce. Be dominant.'"
