CW's 'Legends Of Tomorrow' S01E05 'Fail-Safe' Caity Lotz, Wentworth Miller Premiere Recap

The CW Network continues with the premiere of DC's Legends of Tomorrow. In episode 5, Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) join White Canary (Caity Lotz) as they take the fight to Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) in Fail-Safe.

While working on an algorithm, Martin Stein (Victor Garber) discusses with Cisco (Carlos Valdes)on solving the equation, but something isn't right. Stein realizes this is a tap and refuses to give up the formula. Valentina Vostock (Stephanie Corneliussen) wants Stein to give up already , so she can stop the mind games. Savage shows up, promising to have fun while breaking Stein.  

Firestorm (Franz Drameh) hears Stein in trouble in his mind and blames himself he's in the labor camp. Unfortunately, White Canary and Captain Cold cannot find a way to break in. Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) realizes he needs to speak with someone from the Russian Mafia, who was a prisoner in the camp. Canary beats the crap out of the mobster's henchmen in the men's locker room. 

After Hunter takes a beating from the mobster, Canary steps in and makes him talk. As The Atom and Heat Wave are pushed into their prison cell, Hunter yells at Firestorm and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) to stay put. Hunter then shows Canary the apocalypse if Stein gives up the formula. If the operation fails, carry has to kill Stein.

Captain Cold knows Canary has a side mission. At lunch, the Atom gets into a fight with a bulked-up prisoner. As Valentina Vostock slaps Stein around, Hawkgirl figures out how Firestorm can send him a signal. Hawkgirl cuts Firestorm's arm, leaving Stein with the message, "We're coming!"

After the yard fight, the Atom is back in his cell, arguing with Heat Wave. Vandal uses the two prisoners as leverage to make Stein talk. Stein has to watch them being electrocuted. After Stein cracks, Captain Cold and Canary split. As Heat Wave and Atom argue over teamwork, Canary shoots her way through the guards but misses Stein. 

Stein tells Valentina Vostock about the fall of the Soviet Union. Hawkgirl and Firestorm try to convince Hunter that their plan will work. Heat Wave won't leave his cell without Atom, who's too beaten to stand. Valentina spots the message on Stein's wrist and figures out he is the missing link. Valentina Vostock wants to merge with Stein to become Firestorm. 

With her sniper rifle, Canary spots Firestorm breaking in. While Heat Wave carries Atom, Firestorm runs and shits down the power, opening the cell. Feeling Hawkgirl's presence, Savage enters the prison riot. Captain Cold stalls Canary from taking the shot at Stein.

As Valentina merges with Stein, Hunter blows up Savage. Firestorm talks to Stein, inside Valentina, and forces him out of her. Without Stein, Valentina explodes and destroys the prison. 

In the spaceship, the team makes a toast and celebrates their victory. Kronos starts shooting at Wavrerider, forcing the ship to crash through the timestream. The team ends up in 2046 Star City, and meet the new Green Arrow.
