Tye Sheridan Joins Olivia Cooke in Steven Spielberg's 'Ready Player One'

Steven Spielberg's highly awaited Ready Player One has finally found its Wade Watts! X-Men: Apocalypse star Tye Sheridan has just been confirmed for the lead role in the film adaptation of Ernest Cline's novel alongside Me and Earl and the Dying Girl actress Olivia Cooke!

According to Deadline, Sheridan will portray Wade, a young "gunter" searching for a hidden Easter Egg within the virtual universe known as OASIS. There is a possibility that the Mud actor will also play Wade's OASIS alter ego Parzival.

In the book, Wade competes with Samantha Cook, who goes by the OASIS character name Art3mis. Samantha will be played by Cooke in the movie, where she will also be the love interest.

Ready Player One will also feature Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Ben Mendelsohn, who will portray the villain Nolan Sorrento.

Sheridan has appeared in several feature films including Goosebumps, The Stanford Prison Experiment and A Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. He will play the young Scott Summers/Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse, a character that he has described as someone who is trying to take control of his powers.

"My character is angry and a bit lost, which I feel like is where I've met a lot of my characters -- in these sort of young life transitions where they're struggling to figure things out for themselves. He's now learning about being a mutant and trying to handle his superhero powers," Sheridan told IndieWire before adding that Cyclops has an interesting storyline in the film.

"The arc for the character is really cool for me -- it's not like I'm just stepping into it and I'm a superhero and it's cool and all that with the suit," he said. "You kind of see the progression of this character -- where he comes from, what he has to overcome and where he goes at the end of the film. It's a great arc."

Catch Sheridan as Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse, which premieres on May 27. Ready Player One will begin production in spring and is scheduled for release on March 30, 2018.
