The first season of Daredevil may have featured a sophisticated yet terrifying villain in Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'onofrio), but Season 2 will introduce a more straightforward brand of brutality in Frank Castle. But is he actually similar to the Devil of Hell's Kitchen? Jon Bernthal, who will play The Punisher in the second season of the Netflix series, has recently confirmed that Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock has a lot in common with his merciless vigilante!
Bernthal spoke to Marvel.com, where he praised Cox for his performance as the Man Without Fear.
"Look, I think what makes this show so special is what Charlie's done with Matt and with Daredevil; what he's done with that is highly unique and they did not want a guy playing just another superhero," Bernthal said. "I mean, he's created a fully realized, fully nuanced character and I think that's what you need to do with Frank Castle as well."
Bernthal went on to explain how The Punisher will affect Matt when the two characters finally meet in the series.
"A big part of Matt Murdock is he needs to be one very bad day away from being Frank Castle," he said. "That's the crux of their conflict: 'You don't know what I've been through. You don't know what I'm all about. Get out of my way.' And this sort of concern for the greater good is something that I think is secondary to this man at this point. What's interesting is you find these two characters that are so alike and so different and then when they collide, they just learn from each other."
It certainly looks like The Punisher is ready to take on Daredevil, as shown in the moving poster shared on the show's official Twitter account.

Bernthal's Punisher isn't the only vigilante who is coming to Hell's Kitchen. Gods of Egypt star Elodie Yung will also be introduced as Matt's martial artist ex, Elektra Natchios.
Daredevil Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on March 18.
