Bill Gates, the richest person in the world, is also one of the people who gives the most money to charities and possibly the humblest person ever to walk the Earth. Weeks after Beyoncé's latest socially charged song, "Formation," mentioned him, the creator of Microsoft wasn't only surprised because of the name-dropping, but because the lyrics consider him"a successful person!"
Speaking to Wired in a recent interview, the billionaire and cultural icon recounted that, although he'd heard "Formation" a few times, he hadn't realized his name was mentioned until weeks later. It wasn't until someone in his office pointed it out that he even realized Beyoncé said she "just might be a black Bill Gates in the making" on the song's lyrics.
"'Are you serious? This is kind of a strange set of words here.' I'm surprised," Gates told interviewer Davey Alba, recounting the first time he noticed the song's lyrics. "I guess it's nice that people consider me successful."
It is hardly surprising that anyone would ever consider Gates successful, since the only thing he did was revolutionize the technology industry and earn ridiculous amounts of money with it, with Forbes reporting that the Microsoft founder's net worth is about $75.8 billion. And that's without counting everything he's donated to charities over the course of his life
In all, Gates is also a famously giving person, and the foundation he created with his wife Melinda happens to be the largest private one in the world.
One thing he hasn't done, however, is meeting Beyoncé. In the same interview, arguably the most famous entrepreneur in the world revealed that he doesn't actually know her, even though she name-dropped him in her latest song.
Gates does, however, know Bey's husband, Jay Z, as they both did a humorous clip regarding the billionaire's retirement from Microsoft back in 2008.
