The '90s were definitely a golden age for high school-themed movies, including Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You, but one film embodies everything that made the decade special. Cruel Intentions, a 1999 retelling of Dangerous Liaisons, remains an amazing film to this day, and it's getting an NBC television show -- with original Kathryn Merteuil, Sarah Michelle Gellar!

It's been months since the first time audiences heard there was going to be a Cruel Intentions TV sequel, but it wasn't until this Thursday that Gellar confirmed she'll be joining the cast. The '90s superstar took to Instagram to announce she'll be reprising her role of downright evil Kathryn in the new series.

In a very early morning #ThrowbackThursday, the 38-year-old star showed a side-by-side comparison of the original production and the upcoming series. On both photos, Gellar smiles to the camera while hanging out with director Roger Kumble and producer Neal Moritz, both of whom are involved in the NBC sequel.

According to Deadline, the sequel, so far only a pilot, will be set in modern-day, a decade and a half after the events of the film. The story will follow Gellar's character, Kathryn, who's still just as evil as she was in high school, trying to take control of the family company from her nephew, Bash, the son of Ryan Philippe and Reese Witherspoon's characters.

So far, Gellar, who will be the star of the show, will be joined by Taylor John Smith as her nephew, and Samantha Logan and Sophia Brown are joining in.

It's unclear whether anyone from the original film will be joining the cast. Philippe's character died in the film so his return wouldn't make any sense, but other actors involved in the project included Witherspoon, Selma Blair and even Joshua Jackson, and any of them could make cameos.

This will be Gellar's third pilot after the end of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She also co-starred with Robin Williams in The Crazy Ones and starred in the drama, Ringers, both of which were picked up for series.
