Yesterday, two men were convicted of plotting to rob and then murder soul singer and actress Joss Stone. Kevin Liverpool and his co-conspirator Junior Bradshaw have denied the charges, but were found guilty by a British jury of conspiring to murder, cause bodily harm and rob Stone. 35-year-old Liverpool was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum service of 10 years and 8 months. 32-year-old Bradshaw has yet to be sentenced.
During the sentencing, Judge Francis Gilbert told the convicted conspirator, "You intended to rob her and kill her and dump her body in the river, according to your words, and then leave the country with your accomplice Junior Bradshaw."
Bradshaw and Liverpool were arrested in June of 2011, reportedly close to Stone's home in southwestern England after nervous neighbors reported them and their suspicious behavior to the police. The two never reached the singer's residence. According to the prosecutors, the two set off from their home in Manchester to Stone's home in Devon "armed with a samurai sword, knives, a hammer, black bags and gloves."
On their way to the singer's house, Liverpool and Bradshaw were involved in a car crash and even got lost and stopped to ask a postman for directions to Stone's home. After their vehicle was searched, handwritten notes were discovered referring to "decapitate." Others read "Jocelyn RIP and "Once Jocelyn's dead ... find a river to dump her," prosecutors said. According to other incriminating notes, the two did not approve of Stone's invitation to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
After news of the verdict reached the Grammy award-winner, Joss Stone released a statement of gratitude saying, "I am relieved the trial is now over and that these men are no longer in a position to cause harm to anyone."
