Wisdom Teeth Death [VIDEO]: Healthy 24-Year-Old Marek Lapinski Dies During Routine Dental Procedure

24-year-old Marek Lapinski, a software developer from San Diego, California, had his wisdom teeth removed on March 21 and three days later he died. His family is now searching for answers in regards to the medical care administered during the dental procedure. Lapinski was apparently a healthy young man with no history of medical problems, which makes the task of figuring out what went wrong more daunting. During the procedure he coughed so Propofol was then administered. Propofol is the powerful anesthetic that has been linked to the death of Michael Jackson.

Lapinski reportedly woke up coughing during the procedure performed by oral surgeon Dr. Steven Paul in Temecula, so the strong anesthetic was given to him.

"When he coughed they administered Propofol and that's when he went into cardiac arrest," claims Lapinski's mother, April.

From there, his condition deteriorated rapidly so he was taken to Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrietaon and then transfered to UCLA Medical Center where he passed away on March 24. According to the ambulance report, a piece of gauze was found lodged in Lapinski's airway.

"I was told by the hospital they weren't sure if this was all caused from him choking on a piece of gauze," April said. "Somebody was not paying attention at some point."

"He was so scared to get this done," Lapinski's sister, Natalie, said. "That morning he texted me and said, I'm going in. I'll call you when I'm out.' I never heard from him again." Natalie, who is a nurse, feels that her brother was given too much anesthesia. According to his medical records, Marek was given six different sedatives by his surgeon and that he may have been without oxygen for 10 minutes.

"The pulmonary doctor at the hospital told me it looked like an overdose to him," the victim's mother said. "He had no health issues we were aware of. This was very strange and unexpected."

"What's most shocking is the healthy 24-year-old goes in for an operation as routine as having his wisdom teeth removed and dies in the process," Tony Keiser, a friend of the Lapinski family said. "It's inconceivable."
