Yesterday the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Glasgow, Scotland, to see a homeless shelter and launch a sports program. While meeting with onlookers at the Emirates Arena, one lucky girl dressed as princess was about to receive a royal kiss from Prince William. Perhaps she thought that the pregnant Kate Middleton would have been mad because the little girl, Shona Ritchie, avoided the kiss like her life depended on it!
While visiting the Emirates Arena, Kate and William met some young athletes as will as Games organizers. Then a commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark their visit. Onlookers were happy to have the royals come over for a chat and Prince William was even asked by a little girl for a kiss. 4-year-old Shona Ritchie had worn her favorite green and gold princess outfit and even had a golden crown to complete the ensemble. Shona's mother, Karen, said that her daughter had been waiting all morning to ask William for a kiss:
"She's been dressed up like that since 6am today and we've been here waiting since nine," Mrs Ritchie said. "But when she finally plucked up the courage to ask him, she got really shy and pulled away. As he leaned in to kiss her on the forehead she pulled away and got really shy. This is the quietest she's been all day."
"Oh, no! You see!" William said after his kiss was rejected. "Aw. Next time, Shona. Next time."
The little heartbreaker also refused to give the 30-year-old prince a flower, since she was saving it for his wife. "Is that for me?" he asked. "Is that for Kate? "Yeah, you're going to give it for her."
When the Duchess made her way down the line, Shona was happy to give Kate her the gift.
"She said Shona looked very pretty and asked her if she had picked the flower from her garden," Ritchie recalled of meeting the pregnant Kate Middleton. "But Shona told her she got it from my vase in the house and she thought that was very funny."
