George Kennedy, the character actor who won an Academy Award for playing opposite Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke, died last weekend from a heart ailment. He was 91.

Kennedy appeared in more than 200 movies; here are just three of the roles he is especially well known for -- watch them as a tribute to the late, great Hollywood star.

1. Herman Scobie in Charade.

Kennedy, ever the character actor, had a medium-size and very important role in the 1963 classic romantic comedy starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. In the film, Kennedy plays one of the four men chasing Hepburn's character down after her husband dies, when they all suppose Hepburn's husband, Charles, left her a fortune of $250,000 he'd once stolen.

Kennedy is the scariest of the trio, a blunt man with  a hook hand. He's the first to die at the hands of the unknown murderer.

Charade works great on different levels, from suspense to romantic comedy. Whether it is to see Grant, Hepburn, Walter Matthau or Kennedy, it's always worth a watch.

2. Captain Ed Hocken in the Naked Gun movie series.

In this film series, Kennedy played  the boss of Leslie Nielsen, responsible for persuading Nielsen's character, Frank Derbin, to pursue Jane (Priscilla Presley).

3. Dragline in Cool Hand Luke.

This is the role for which Kennedy won the Academy Award. In the film, Kennedy antagonizes Newman's stubborn leading character for the first half of the movie, as the prison newbie takes on numerous challenges to settle the score between the two.

After they both meet in the boxing ring and Dragline destroys Luke, the two end up developing a great friendship and become the ultimate brothers when the iron-willed Luke refuses to go down even after he's obviously lost.

Kennedy was worked  in movies and television. He had a recurring role on prime-time soap Dallas and played the title character's grandpa in the 1998 live-action Dennis the Menace movie. His last film role was in 2014's The Gambler, opposite Mark Wahlberg and 2016 Best Actress Oscar winner Brie Larson.
