As Mstars previously reported, Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling recently revealed that he plans on taking a break from acting sometime in the near future. Such news broke the hearts of several "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans who'd love to see Gosling play the hot and steamy Christian Grey in E.L. James' erotic film adaptation. But thanks to the recent movie trailer release of Gosling's upcoming thriller "Only God Forgives," the Mr. Grey buzz continues to swirl despite such "break from Hollywood" rumors! In the sneak-peek clip, Gosling portrays the sexy, mysterious, rough-and-tough "crime master" Julian. Apparently Gosling has that dark, powerful edge needed to snag the kinky and seductive role of Christian Grey!
The "Only God Forgives" trailer just hit YouTube on Wednesday (April 3), and it's already garnered over 404,000 hits. According to the New York Daily News, the upcoming movie is said to be "gritty, potentially gruesome action flick." The film follows Julian (Gosling), who runs a Thai boxing club as a front organization for his family's drug smuggling operation - he is forced by his mother Jenna to find and kill the individual responsible for his brother's recent death. Check it out:
"Only God Forgives" hits theaters July 19.
Just last month, Mstars reported:
Having starred in so many hit roles, Gosling thinks that he's lost perspective on what he's doing in life. The "Notebook" hunk is ready for a break, which means he probably won't take on the sexually demanding lead role of Christian Grey. Gosling tells the AP:
“I’ve been doing it too much,” the actor says of acting. “I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that... I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does."
He continues, “There’s a lot of pressure to be the lead of a film - I have done it. It’s not my favorite way to work... The more opportunities I’m given, the more I learn about how easy it is to fu## it up. You fight for freedom and then you get it, and then you have enough rope to hang yourself. It’s like trying to exercise some restraint because I do have so much freedom.”
But no worries, Gosling fans - the "Gangster Squad" heartthrob is set to appear in two films this spring, "The Place Beyond the Pines" and "Only God Forgives." He will also make his directorial debut with "How to Catch a Monster."
So apparently "Only God Forgives" should be one of Gosling's final onscreen appearances before he takes his break, but that hasn't stopped continued Christian Grey buzz from circulating on the web...
@theragermemoirs: "Ryan Gosling should have been 1st choice for Christian Grey in the 50 Shades films. He has the looks, the swagger + I can just tell..."
@BrunetteBarbzz: "If Ryan Gosling really is going to play Christian Grey I might die. Omg brb drooling already."
@Ay3_hudson: "If Ryan Gosling plays Christian Grey in 50 Shades of Grey, I literally think my ovaries would explode and then I would pass out.
Oh, and thanks to this little April Fools Day blog post written by "Fifty Shades" fan Shannon Houston, several loyal "Gosling for Mr. Grey" enthusiasts believed that the handsome "Notebook" star was OFFICIALLY cast for the part. Not true, it was a PRANK! Read the bogus article here, where Houston claims in a bogus PR statement:
"...Although we are quite a ways off from production, we can confirm that Ryan Gosling will be taking on the role of Christian Grey in the forthcoming adaptation of E. L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey. We are thrilled to have such an amazing talent on board and are currently looking for an equally brilliant actress to play the role of Ana. There is no filming date in sight as of yet, but we do hope to go into production by fall 2014."
Despite all of the ongoing Mr. Grey love, several fans still can't picture Gosling playing such a kinky role. As one commenter observes:
"Gosling is one the most exciting young actors at the moment. Putting him on the same list of some TV pretty male faces seems like a downgrade in his career, in my opinion. He would fit the role of a sexy/sadomasochistic/intense/controller lover in perfection."
So what do Mstars readers think... should James still consider Gosling for the charming and seductive role of Mr. Grey? Take the latest "Fifty Shades" casting poll!
