People have high expectations of Star Wars Episode VIII since the sequel will be the direct follow-up to the widely successful Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, Daisy Ridley claims that director Rian Johnson isn't feeling much pressure and is in fact, being cheeky when sharing details about the film!
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ridley happily spoke about working on the new movie, which will begin where The Force Awakens ended: with the first meeting of Rey (Ridley) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in front of the Jedi Temple.
"It's still very lovely and warm and friendly, just like [Episode] Seven was," Ridley said of the Episode VIII set before adding that Johnson has a different approach in sharing details about the film.
"I think Rian actually wants to be a bit cheekier with the little tidbits of information that come out," she said, referring to the Episode VIII pre-production announcement featuring her and costar Hamill.
Johnson's more casual approach to the sequel to The Force Awakens is in stark contrast to J.J. Abrams' secrecy with the previous film. However, it is possible that that director can take on more freedom since most of the big secrets are already out (i.e., Kylo Ren actually being the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa).
Ridley was also quick to point out that it isn't just Johnson who is openly sharing details about the film. She mentioned that Hamill and veteran Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher have been enjoying their freedom on social media.
"You can see, even with the way Mark and Carrie posted pictures with their chairs, it's a little bit freer," she said.
Star Wars Episode VIII will mark the return of John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma. The film is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
