Sony and Marvel Studios have announced the latest casting news for their Spider-Man 2017 reboot. Actress and singing sensation Zendaya will play a part of Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Tom Holland.
As we previously mentioned, Peter Parker was just a average high school student when he was suddenly bitten by a radioactive spider. Even though he had super powers, it was not enough for Peter to stop the burglar who shot and killed Uncle Ben during a robbery gone wrong. Before he puts on the costume and becomes the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Parker reminds himself that with great power comes great responsibility.
Here's what we know of far. Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Marisa Tomei has landed the iconic role of Aunt May (who was recently played by Sally Field). Before showing up his own solo flick directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), Holland will be first seen in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed Captain America: Civil War, choosing between Iron Man/Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.
According to Deadline, actress-singer Zendaya has landed a major role in the ensemble cast. Though there were no other names attached, the Disney starlet was among the lineup of actresses who have been quietly testing for the part. Details are very tight-lipped but the Shake It Up! actress might be playing a character supposedly named Michelle.
Could the 19 year old be playing the romantic interest of Peter Parker? In the comic books, the women in Parker's lives include Aunt May, Mary Jane, and Gwen Stacy. The K.C. Undercover actress could be playing a classmate in Parker's school, like Flash Thompson or Jessica Jones, who had a crush on him; much to husband Luke Cage's dismay.
In an interview with iHeart Radio, Zendaya reveals, "Because you never think that you know everything. There's always room for everyone to grow and to respect the young opinion. So that is why I enjoy working with those people, because they respect my opinion and let me do me."
Spider-Man will hit theaters sometime in 2017.
