Last week's episode of FOX's The Following entitled "Whips and Regret" definitely kept the suspense coming as the capture of Claire Matthews culminated in the previous episode, "Guilt." Despite losing their most important asset, the FBI did manage to uncover the recruiting website for Joe Carroll's cult of followers. After hacking into militiaman Vince's e-mail account, a disturbing website was found and the FBI tracks it to a server located in a BDSM club. From there, the search for Joe's compound intensifies. So where does that leave us for tonight's episode "The Curse" and what exactly did we learn last week?
"Whips and Regret" opens with agent Parker finding a reclusive Ryan Hardy bag in his old habits of wasting away in his Brooklyn apartment. Clearly distraught over Claire's kidnapping, Parker gets him out of his funk by letting him know that the recruitment site had been traced. Hardy, back on his game, accompanies Parker to a BDSM club where it is revealed that Vince often visits and even has a relationship with one of the girls working there. They use the girl, Hayley, to get Vince to come pick up one of his packages so that they can track him.
Meanwhile back at the compound, Claire is not exactly ready to be part of Joe's world again. Luckily Jacob is there to force it into her. This character is slowly becoming one of the darkest of the show. He has to deal with killing Paul, whom he loved, and then living with the woman he loved (Emma) who happened to have abandoned him. His hatred is intense and he is now in charge of Claire, so he is a force in the show now. Also, we see how crazy Roderick is when Vince just tried to be friends with him. Vince then walks right into the FBI's trap.
Ryan allows Vince to take Hayley with him to another area, leading them right into a kind of training facility for "followers." Unfortunately for one agent, "training" means that the people there are killers. Luckily Ryan Hardy kills everyone as Vince escapes. Joe is not pleased that the facility was discovered and takes it out on Roderick.
As the show came to a close, we found out that Molly (Ryan's neighbor and ex-girlfriend) is in cahoots with Joe and wants to be the one to kill Ryan. Also Joe lets Claire reunite with her son Joey.
